Petit-serifs are small (petit is French for "small") serifs, which are attached to regular sans-serif fonts.^{citation needed}

An example of this is Johnston.^{citation needed} Petit-serifs were added to this font, but Frank Pick chose to stay with the original design (later modified).^{citation needed}
