Political campaigner

A political campaigner (or political activist) is someone (generally not a politician) involved in political campaigning, that is, lobbying the government and politicians on political issues (such as the environment) and encouraging other citizens to do the same.

A classic example of a political campaigner is Tariq Ali. Ali participated in high profile debates during the Vietnam War, speaking out against American foreign policy and using his writing and political activism to promote other non-politicians' into political participation.
