TV Vlaanderen Digitaal is a provider of digital television via satellite for the Belgian market, using the Astra-1 satellites at 19.2°E and at 23.5°E.
Customers are mainly people in the area of Flanders. Some of those customers do not have cable access, like Flemish people living in french speaking parts of Belgium. It is only possible to register as a customer of TV Vlaanderen Digitaal using a Belgium postal address, due to copyright restrictions.
TV Vlaanderen is like the Dutch Canal Digitaal owned by Airbridge Investments and Providence Equity Partners. Whereby the last party has a controlling majority investment.
Besides the Flemish stations (één, Canvas, VTM, 2BE, VT4, VijfTV and Vitaya) Tv Vlaanderen also offers a number of themed channels such as Discovery Channel and National Geographic Channel.
In comparison to for instance many German broadcasters, the Flemish public and commercial broadcasts are not freely available via satellite. To receive the Flemish broadcasts a smartcard is required to decrypt the Mediaguard 2 signal.
A standard DVB-S receiver is used, which can also receive other free-to-air broadcasts.
