Plot

When dying actor Jack Ames (Gene Hackman) asks his ex-cop friend Harry (Paul Newman), who lives with Jack and is attracted to his wife Catherine (Susan Sarandon), to deliver something for him, things turn sour and a twenty year old case is opened up.

• The movie clip that Paul Newman and Gene Hackman view briefly toward the end of the film is of a much younger Hackman along with Dabney Coleman from Downhill Racer.
• The movie was filmed at LAPD's Hollywood Division Stationhouse. The police officers seen in the background are not extras, but actual police officers.
• The theatrical trailer features snippets of scenes not used in the final film including Harry and Capt. Egan having an argument at the police station.
